how long do you think this system will last??

im building my friend a PC that will be able to play all games for at least ne year, will this be good enough?
proc 1.2ghz t bird plan to oc this withn an SK6 and delta
mobo Epox EP-8K7A
256mb of crucial ddr ram
Visiontek Geforce 3
20gb ibm deskstar 60gxp
Pioneer 16x slot load DVD rom drive
Lite on 12x10x32 CDRW

how long do you think this will last and i will probably not bump up the processor speed because of price. hopefully oc to 1.4 to 1.6 ghz

That should last at least couple years. With new hardware comming out all the time, it might look out dated in couple months, but in reality it should last couple years with software being behind hardware.

That GeForce3 will last him at least a year...i mean, games that utilize/stress the power of GeForce3 won't even be available until next year...

and beyond that, the next generation of Nvidia stuff (NV25 i believe) isnt that much more powerful than gf3; the objective is to make it more feature rich, like radeon.

sounds good. personally i would get a bigger hard drive and more ram. i mean crucial ram is so cheap, it's almost a crime not to. i'd get more than 512 if my motherboard had more than 2 dimm slots. and you never know when you'll need more hard drive space, i can still remember when i was absolutely sure 6 gigs was more than enough. other than that, sounds good.

um he will never need a bigger hard drive because he doesnt have a high speed connection and probably wont get one for 1 to 2 years. and 512mb of ram on a computer is unnecessary to give him better performance. he seriously would never use even 10 gigs. i was thinking about getting him a 15 gig 60gxp but i think that a little low. this will just be a mchine for gaming and watching DVD's if he ever buys one
