How long do you think the 6670 will stay alive?

Hi there! First of all, here's my PC

Intel g630 - 2.7ghz 2 cores 2 threads
Kingston Value 1x4 gb
Asus P8h61 mlx3
WD 500gb blue
Cooler Master Extreme power plus 500w
Sentey 3270 (low profile, mid-tower, nothing fancy)
Lg 19' 1366x768

I built it a few days ago and I'm planning to get a Saphire 6670 gddr5. I guess that it fits my requirements. I'll be using it for gaming, but nothing extreme: I would really like to run Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Dirt 3 and fifa 13.

I could save a few more bucks for the next two months and go for the 6770 (around early november/december), but it's going to be a really long time and I think it's not worth it.

I know that the difference in price is minimum between those cards. The thing is I live in Argentina and currently there is a lot of trouble with importation and the price of dollar. With my budget that's the best I could buy. If I lived in USA I would have gotten a better pc.

So, after all it comes to this: either I get the 6670 now (which I really want, and think it would suit me well) or wait 2 months for the 6770 (which I don't want to).

Is it really a big difference between those two? I read reviews and all, but I just don't want to spend money on something that won't run games next year. I don't care if I run them on medium graphics. I am not quite sure if I should wait that long for a better one.Do you think the 6670 will hold on for another year or two?

Thank you so much for reading this!

Personally I dont think the 6670 will hold on currently, its a low end outdated card. You would be better off with a 6770.

I'd say wait two months. You can do some minimal gaming on the Intel HD graphics until then. The 6770 has double the Stream Processors and texture units over the 6670, it's a big difference, and waiting now will make your PC last MUCH longer in the long term.

Plus, if you wait a few months the HD7770 may have come down in price a bit in Argentina, which would be an even better buy. :)

Here a performance summy from Techpowerup, avg performance from alot of games:

perfrel_1680.gif

Take the 5770 and just put 6770 in its place, since its the same chip.

There is about a ~52% performance differnce between a 6670 and a 6770.
(without even mentioning the 5770/6770 overclock pretty well too)

Which means say your playing Dirt3 @1920x1080 4xAA:
6670 = ~46 fps avg.
6770 = ~70 fps avg.

*** How much is the 7770 where you live? Is that far outsides your budget?

Thanks guys. I don't think i'd reach the 7770. That's way out of my budget. Although I think if I cut down some things I'll be able to buy it in one month more or less. Also, there are lots of tests coming right now so I don't think it would be a very good idea to start gaming :)

Just a couple more questions: The 6770 will suit for the next, say, 2 years? At least in medium. And will my PSU have any problem with it?

Again, thanks for the help. I'll see what I can do with Intel HD Graphics to kill time :)

Hah, if you have exams coming up, now is definitely not the time to buy a graphics card! ;)

If you stick with that monitor, you should definitely be able to get a couple of years out of the 6770. 1366x768 is pretty low res by PC gamer standards so it won't stress your graphics card as hard as a 1080p monitor would.
