How long do you run MemTest86 for?

I have never used the program 'Memtest' before. I am in the middle of buying some ram from the buy/sell/trade forums, and I don't know how long to let the test run for. I am testing it at stock speeds with stock voltages and a mild overclock of the CPU. Well, maybe not mild after all... I have a 2400+ in the system, which I usually run @ 2350 (14x168mhz). I am now running it @ 2200 (11x200). I assume that since this is testing the memory, this wil be ok.

1) How long should I run the memtest for to be satisfied that the RAM works?
2) Does the O/C of the CPU matter?
3) I am running the aggressive memory interface will that make a difference?
(it still shows the normal timings)

Thanks for all of you help. I know how to stress test CPU's, but I never have used this program to test memory before.

1) I normally let it make 5 passes (using default tests), but others let it run for 24 hrs. (using all tests).
2) Yes, an unstable cpu can cause memtest to report errors
3) Yes, if it's too agressive and unstable memtest will report errors

If you see any error(s) then you need to raise the cpu core voltage and/or memory voltage and/or adjust the cas latencies.

Goodluck!

Thanks. I truly appreciate it. I paid the guy %50 for it, and promised I would pay the other %50 upon testing. I want to pay him as soon as possible (as long as I know it works). I am the type of guy who runs P95 w/F@H (might as well pick up any unused clock cycles 🙂 ) for OVER 12hrs in order to check stability.

I will run it for a minimum of 3 hours and then if it is still going well before I go to bed, I will pay him right then. I would guess that by the morning I will know how well things truly are.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will PM him now and let him know what is up.

I have finished running the Memtest. I was able to get in contact with a friend who had recomended it to me. He suggested that I go into the settings (or options or whatever they called it) and be sure to select 'All Tests'. I stopped it after it was 5 hours running, selected all the tests, and re-started it.

The memory passed for another 9hrs of Memtest w/all tests selected. I have already made the final payment. Thanks again for your quick reply. I just figured that I would update the thread with this info.
