I bought some lunch meat (Truly-Baked Ham) about 10 days ago at the deli counter in the grocery store. Think it's still good? Would you eat it?

Think it's still good?
I wouldn't have thought so.

Would you eat it?
Probably.

I survived three years living in crap as a student, germs can't harm me now.

Pre-packaged stuff like Oscar Mayer Bologna and Ham and stuff should be used within 7 days of opening.

Most meat from the Deli counter should be used within 5-7 days (less preservatives in some of it) but you never really know when it was opened by the Deli. I've seen some bizarre stuff in there that I know doesn't sell that well so the package could have been opened for quite a while before purchased.

7 days for either prepackaged or fresh cut.

Any longer and your asking for a serious case of disintery

Thanks for the comments. my general rule has always been a week, but a week goes by so friggin quickly, and then I realize that I didn't even eat any of it yet, and that really ticks me off cuz I might as well have just taken a $5 bill and set it on fire.

oh well, guess it's garbage disposal time...man I really hate throwing food out...of course, I also hate throwing food UP too, so I guess I've got to live with throwing it out... :(

He's talking about meat from the deli counter. There usually aren't expiration dates on those. The expiration dates on pre-packaged junk is only valid if the package is unopened.

I'll usually let it go 7-10 days. If it smells ok and isn't noticeably foul (slimy, moldy, etc) it probably is ok.

If you need a lawn mower to cut the green fuzz, it's probably too old. :Q
