How long do you have to transfer credit from one college to another?

Is there a time limit on transfering credit from one college to another? I am assuming there is, but have no idea what that timeframe is. I checked with the 2 colleges I have attended already, but see no info about it on thier websites. I'm not even sure if all schools have the say time frame. SO if anybody knows, please let me know.

there is no time limite, think about it someone attended college for years and then got married and got a job and decided to go back to school in 20 years, if there was a time limit all of the classes that he passed int those 2 years he would have to repeat which make no sence.

Alright, that does make sense. SO the schools hold your transcript forever? It really hasn't been that long since I have been out of school. ABout 3 years since I last attended, but I had other classes from a 6 years ago as well. Although when i think about it only like 3 or 4 of my classes will even be worth trying to transfer.

Also say a degree requires English 101 and 102, but say you take a placement test and they place you into 102. Do you then have to take 102 + another english class, or is being placed into the higher class just like you passed the first?

No what I mean is, if the degree requires 2 years of english, in this case 101 and 102. But you take the placement test and that shows you already have the knowledge from 101, so they put you in 102. SO do you then have to complete another english class(103 or whatever) or do they consider getting placed into 102(mean you have the knowledge of 101)as already having passed 101, therefore you only need to complete 102 and that will count as 101 and 102?

It depends a LOT on the school... and a LOT on the classes. Some schools won't transfer in-major classes without prior approval--or won't transfer classes from "comparable" universities (this is particularly the case with prestigious universities for in-major/advanced level classes). Most will transfer out-of-major classes (or early prerequisites) taken within the last 5 to 10 years (again, it varies).

One suggestion: if it has been awhile, be careful about transferring math/science classes that you haven't "kept in practice". Sure, you might have aced Calc 2 ten years ago, but if you haven't used it, Calc 3 might give you some trouble. 🙂

Well I am currentlly looking at an applied associates degree from a community college so no calc or physics or any of that stuff. ABotu the only things I can think of that may transfer are my low level math and english classes, and maybe some low level computer classes.

I was doing a degree in CMT in Nashville, TN and I moved to NJ and four year later I applied to a school here and I was told that my stuff had expired. That is was only good for two years.

:Q

dang 2 years, thats not good at all. I figured my stuff from 3 years ago would probablly transfer, but my stuff from back in like 97 from when i was actually in high school, but taking college courses through prep, that i wasn't sure would still be good.
