Say you have a big grueling workout leaving you sore for a day or two after having worked out semi-regularly for a few years now..how long is it in recovery mode for exactly?

DOMS lasts about 48 hours or so for most people.

If I take a break for more than two weeks, the DOMS in my legs lasts for nearly a week. :Q

True, but if you've been off for a while you need to ease back into thing to avoid that. I've made the mistake of going too hard the first time back at the gym each year (I lift during the cycling offseason) and ended up crippled for a week. :p

BTW- active recovery (very light cycling or walking) can help with this.

Yeah, my problem is that leg day is the last day of the week. And I am positively sloth on the weekends.

I do take it easy when I come back from a break. Light weights and lower intensity. It still hurts. :(

You'd have to catch me first. We bike geeks are fast unless you catch us out of our element. :p

"big grueling workouts" leave you sore for much longer than a day or two.

very heavy squatting or deadlifting will put you in an OMG state of soreness for upto 5 days,
in my experience.

It works for me.

Yes, because all the professionals workout just 2-3 times a month.
