How long do civics usually last before major repairs?

Hey, I am looking for a really cheap car and found a 97 180k civic LX. I can get a good deal on it. The seller says it needs new brakes and tires, but seeing this is 180k, will I need to do major repairs on it soon? Is there anything I should particularly look out for? THanks

Any moment but I would not pay more than $800 bucks(that's me) for this tired car. Ask when the timing belt was changed and if it has not been changed in the past 60k miles, change the water pump at the same time.

well my guesstimation would be closer to $1500 or so. $2500 can get me a corolla with low 100k miles.

but yeah... $800 will probably get you some sort of 94' cavalier with same milage.

I'd go for the $2500 Corolla with 100,000 miles.

Our family has a 1991 Corolla DX automatic that just past 99,000 and it still runs great.

Ya, I honestly would not buy a car with even close to 180k. At that rate, its probably had several owners, and at least one of them probably abused it.
