My manual says 8 hours, there's a thread in Hot Deals where someone mentions leaving rice in theirs for days. I'd think that bacteria growth would be a problem leaving rice that long...

And a call for recipies, what's your favorite rice cooker/rice recipie?

for days is probably not a good idea  may get denatured, might dry up, might be a fire hazard, not sure if bacterial growth would be a problem under that that kind of temp though

We (my family) usually leave rice in for about a day. Any longer and it turns yellow or hardens. My dad's very picky w/ his rice so we have to make new rice everyday.

Speaking of rice cookers....the one I bought LordJezo for Christmas is broken! I feel so bad...I gave him sucky rice cooker! I am so ashamed.

My roommate left rice in the cooker for a week. It was basically a wet mass of putrid, lumpy sludge. I nearly vomitted when I opened it, and of course I had to clean it out because he wasn't there.

Heresy!

BTW, rice that's been in a cooker for 1 day is great for frying.

In our family, my wife will take the left overs the next day and fry it up for breakfast or lunch meal.

Cooked rice is a great media for growing bacteria and fungi which can make the rice taste bad and\or make you sick. I would put the cooked rice in a refrigerator as soon as possible.

I have the zijoroshi or whatever it is neuro fuzzy model. We left it on for 48 hrs to see what would happen. The rice didn't dry out, but we did notice some yeasty smells start at the 24 hour mark.

Until the end of the day, but shorter in the summer. Usually what I do is make 3 cups for lunch (I don't eat breakfast) and it'll last me through dinner.

i leave it in there for a few days but i seal it off with saran wrap and put it in the fridge when im done.. so its really not bad to keep it in the cooker pot as long as you put it away after usage. I would not just leave rice out in the open for more then 2 days max.. yuck!

wow! how much does a bag cost, how much you use per person per meal, what are some good recipies, and what is a good cooker?

I am buying ricebowls for $12 for 6 bowls. Each bowl has rice, a few shredded veggies and some chicken (about 1/4 of an oz :) )

Teach me O wize one!

Am I the only one who doesn't understand why you need a special cooker for rice? I've always just thrown a couple cups of rice in with some water and left it on the stove for about 20 minutes. (No, I'm not talking about minute rice.)

depends on your rice cooker.

some can keep the rice nice and warm and almost like the day you cooked it for a few days, while in others it turns yellow after a day or so.. but you know, if the rice is yellow or really dry, it's time for a new batch ^^

i don't get putting rice in the fridge? what do you add more water later and reboil or nuke it? or throw it out when it spoils in the fridge a few days later? :p
