How long can you eep your system running

I kept my previous computer on for about 5 months straight. Never even restarted it for everything but for a few times. My laptop goes into sleep mode when I close the screen but I rarely shut if all the way down.

Done a month max, but usually I shut down because it doesn't need to be on, and leaving it on wastes electricity.
When I wasn't paying for electricity though, it stayed on for a month, until I needed to pack it up and take it home for the end of term.

12 hours, maybe a bit longer.

Depends on how much work I have to do, and my stamina. No point in leaving the computer idle - electricity is expensive enough.

My Server machine runs few usually about a week or so at a time. Then I'll turn it off because I feel bad about all the electricity I'm wasting. But then I need to get something off it, so it goes back on for a week.

I never turn off my computer, its prolly been a year or so since i last turned it off. When im not using it I just turn off the monitor.

Can I include my work systems? Most of my Windows servers usually stay up for 1 or 2 months between security patches, but my Linux and AIX servers can go up to a year between reboots.

2-3 days tops. i only have a laptop that i use at work and home, so *if* i get most of the weekend off, ill usually leave it on

I can beat that:

Customer WebSphere development Linux server:

20:07:27 up 427 days, 4:13, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.01, 0.00

Customer VMWare ESX development host system:

7:15pm up 404 days, 10:17, 1 user, load average: 0.08, 0.02, 0.00

That ESX box is really busy during the week, since it hosts 8 Windows servers. I'm a bit behind on security patches on that box, though... Gotta put that on my to do list 🙂

bah, too bad RAM isn't hot plugable or else we might have a contest 😉 Nice work though!

I've gone well over 2 years without a reboot.
This is with a huge UPS though (so power loss is no issue).

EDIT: And I'm talking about personal systems, not stuff in a datacenter that is monitored 24/7.
