How long can I wear my contact lenses?

I haven't been able to get a straight answer from my doctor. They are ProClear Biocompatibles. I think they are monthly wear but I've been wearing them longer.

As long as they are clear and non-irritating, can I keep wearing them, or does the oxygen permeability go down?

im going on 5 months with my disposables, i think i am supposed to change them like every month but, they dont burn my eyes so i keep wearing them

it's upto you on how long you wan to wear them.

when you get an Eye infection, that's when you can decide to change it.

I have monthlys and usually can wear them for 2 months or so and they start going blurry

Just put in a new pair today actually and everything is so clear 🙂

I used to go 6 weeks or more with my accuvue's, but I went to a Doctor that explained to me the reasoning behind needing to change them and what can, and will eventually happen if you wear them beyond the recommended time.

Long story short, you'll get an abrasion or infection on your cornea which is a very painful injury that you just have to wait out. Not a whole lot to do. That left me with two choices:

Either continue to buy accuvue except buy them more often and follow the recommended schedule. Or, go get Lasik and forget about it. No, he wasn't the one doing the surgery, but I opted to get Lasik and I'm very, very satisfied and happy with the results.

About 2 years ago I saw a study on B&L lenses. They compared the 1 day, 2 week, and month lenses. There was absolutely no difference in the lenses (all from same production line as well). Just a huge mark up on the things. They asked the guy, "Do you think it's deceiving the customer to imply these are different?" He replies, "No. We are marketing them to different folks based on their needs." Reporter says, "Then why are they all different prices?"

Just wear them until they start to irriatate your eye. Keep them clean. I'd say a month is fine.

Ciba Focus Torics Monthly, longest is about 13 months. No eye infection but the edges of the lenses deteriorate and get 'scratchy'....

I wasn't trying for 13 months I thought it was more like 4 months, but time flies sometimes and I didn't have time to get back to the eye doc for a prescription (I lost mine or would just have ordered off the net).

I don't sleep in mine normally so technically they are good for 2 months. I'd say doubling the wear time is a safe bet, but I am not a doctor so don't quote me if you get blinded 🙂

Anyone see that LASIK and stuff is falling majorly in price? there is a radio spot here $580 two eyes (starting at it mentions).....that's about the price of a couple years of contacts.

I just got my contacts, Acuvue 2's, 2 week type. Havent had them more then 2 weeks so i dont know 😀

This is an informative thread though.

Just because you can leave them in that long, doesn't mean you should.

You're eyes will develop vessical growith on your cornea when there's a decrease in oxygen to the surface.

Best practice is to get the most breathable lens out there, and wear it like daily wears (take them out after 10 hours of use, don't sleep in them, then put them back in in the morning after cleaning them well).
