How long can an IDE cable be ?

well, subj ... for DVD-drive ?

and also, are there any connectors to connect two ide cables ? and how are they called ? where to find them ?

you can buy long IDE cables, they should fit a full tower with room to spare. I've never seen any DMA66/100 cables, only 33 that size.

18 inches is the spec... but some are made at 24 inches.... But some are made longer... Think there might be a problem with some of the longer ones though...

I think the max spec is 18" for 80 wire ATA66/ATA100 cables and 24" for standard 40 wire IDE (ATA33) cables. For what it's worth, I've used 24" ATA66/ATA100 and 36" ATA33 cables without any problems.

well , I guess IDE cable would be pain in @ss :(

so, another question , would this handle DVD fine ?

I don't wanna go firewire, b/c it's way too expensive for me :(

I am looking for an article i resently read on long ide cables and how much speed you lose due to the length of a cable. I will post it if I find it.

Here is a link for a 48" cable they guarantee to work. But like shooter said for 80 pin max recommended length is 18" and 40pin is 24".
