How long can a monitor cable be?

I want to set up a dumb terminal with just the monitor/kb/mouse.
Are video signals subject to the same issues with cable length as sound?...well, I guess the answer would be yes. OK, how long can a cable from the video adapter in the computer to the monitor be? Any suggestions for a source for a long monitor cable?

They have monitor cables up to 25 feet at Cyberguys.

In general, the higher your resoultion, the shorter the cable should be. Don't know what maximum distance could be.

Does visual quality decrease when you extend the cables?

After some length, yes, it does decrease quality. Depending on the resolution you are using.

I'm thinking of adding 6 ft., that shouldn't affect at too much?

If you are at 1280x1024 or higher it might make it look a little "soft" compared to what you are used to. But at 1024x768 or lower you probably won't notice a difference.

We added two 6ft. extensions to a monitor at work and it looked the same afterwards but it was a 17in. with a .27 dot pitch at 1024x768 and it was already connected to a 4port belkin:frown:KVM
