How long before the age of the internet wild west is over?

When will governments start preying on the hosting companies and all that transoceanic fiber optic cable.

I give it 15 years. I think very soon, governments may force everyone to use the net as in distinct sub regions of the world, Free America and Europe, Russian net, Chinese net. free Asia network and so on. Such an arrangement will vastly increase their power to control the internet and its users. As protests for democracy in China increases, I suspect the Chinese will be the first to pull their network entirely off the the global net and replace it with their own highly restricted version country. They already doing some part of it.

Such an arrangement will allow connections to be transmitted over regions through a very narrow and controlled gate, thus restricting the flow of information between people. Soon big brother will come down upon all the carriers, the hosts and the content providers to play to their gallery.

Govt should have more control. They need to block and allow traffic appropriately. The whole notion of free worldwide web is crap. china is supposed to want to leverage itself up to become a more modern economy with jobs that will require world access, so unless they decide to mire themselves into a ghetto of cheap labor manufacturing only, the government is in a bind for how long they can gimp their internet.
still though, language barrier is quite effective still, even with google translate.

Its been argued that its already been over for a couple years.
Almost anything bad you do is tracked and recorded. The problem is they wont bust their butts to catch you for petty stuff (simply viewing CP for example).
Although I do find it interesting that CP and bestiality and snuff is readily available but you cant gamble, which is legal everywhere EXCEPT the internet.

The Wild West mentality and consumer control of the Internet needs to end, and fast. The only way to save the Internet is to turn total control of it over to the Government so they can properly screen it for CP, rival view points, and other objectionable materials. This is the only way to keep us all safe from the evil things in this world.
