How long before PC2700 and mobos that support become reality?

I must say that of late, the GH forum has been chock-full of intelligent, HARDWARE conversations/education. Makes a man teary-eyed.. 😉

One of the things I've read about in discussions of DDR mobos/chipsets is "we'll see how much of a difference XYZ chipset makes when PC2700 hits the market." Or words to that effect.

Is this real? That would be PC150, DDR, right? Or 170? Not good at math...obviously.😱

The reason I ask is because even more itchy than my GF3 itch...which I haven't scratched yet, thank goodness, is my itch to buy 512mb of PC2100 DDR (Micron, of course) and put it in the closet for January when I build my DDR rig.

Don't wanna do that if by January, DDR ram that is about 1/3 faster is around.

Please guide/educate/slap me. Thanks.
 
well, first there has to be a chipset, and processor, which has official support for it. Given that AMD hasn't disclosed information about that, I'd say many months at the earliest for them, and Intel is sticking with PC1600 for their DDR chipset, so it's a no-go on that front.
 
I believe SIS is going to support above PC2100 in there P4 DDR chipset and Nforce second revision is supposed to support PC2700 prolly end of the 1st to 3rd quarter of next year
 
Yeah, this fall SiS 645 for the P4 will be avialable, so if somebody produces RAM that could run at that speed then u are in business, yeah Crush 17/18 will have a GF3 MX core and PC2700 support. VIA's upcoming Apollo Pro 2002 is supporting PC2700 for the P4. I have no clue when mem manufac's will be producing PC2700 DDR though.
 
Wow. OK, thanks for the education. GH is just smokin' these days! I guess I won't worry too mucy about PC2100 being "obsolete" anytime soon. Thanks gents.
