How long before PC-racers catch up with GT3 graphically??

I can't understand why there aren't any REALLY good racing-games on the pc. NFS 5 is ok, so is Rally Masters and Colin McRae 2. But they are NOTHING compared to GT3. I honestly plan to shell out almost 500$ for PS2, GT3 and steeringwheel, just to be able to play GT3! But that would really screw up my college budget for this fall
EA (just an example) should be able to release racing games with the same graphical quality as GT3. Sure, it would take a bit of computer-power, but with the prices we have today, people who actually buy the newest games have powerful PC:s. If you use AMD and Nvidia for example, this is what I consider "low-end", "mid-end" and "high end" today.

Low-end: Duron 700+, 128 Mb SDRAM, GF2 MX

Mid-end: TB 1ghz+, 256 Mb PC133 SDRAM, GF2 GTS

High-end: Tb 1.33 Ghz+ (266 mhz bus), 256 Mb+ DDR, GF3

And don't come saying that e.g. K6-2:s are low-end (not to use the K6-2 as an example of something bad, I used one for a year without problems, but they aren't exactly speed-demons). I'm talking about computers actually beeing able to run the newest games.

So, if game-programmers understood that they could have a duron 700, 128 Mb and GF2MX as a limit (instead of a celery 300, 64 meg, V2), pc-games would probably be a whole lot better graphically. I know that really great-looking games are on the horizon (e.g. Aquanox), but soon the PS2 will have Metal Gear Solid 2 as well! ARGH!!

I know there might be some spelling-errors in this text, and I blame them on me beeing tired as hell. I just had to write this because I'm SO F****** JEALOUS of all PS2-owners!

honestly I don't see what everyone is so excited about.
I saw GT3 at my local Software Etc. and I wasn't impressed by the graphics.
True, the gameplay and replayability of GT series games is hard to top, but graphically I didn't think it was that great.

The first racer to effectively use DirectX 8 and the Geforce3's capabilities will blow GT3 out of the water graphically...I'm thinking wait till Christmas/1st quarter 2002 and you'll see something better.

I haven't seen GT3 in action, but most PC racing games with FSAA look pretty sweet.

When I saw GT3 at Fry's, it looked pretty impressive, but then again, it WAS being played on a 50+ inch HDTV with a 16:9 aspect ratio:)

hmm, i highly doubt this, i think it'll take more than a few months for PC racers to catch up to the overall graphical quality of GT3

Anyway, racers are way more fun on consoles. My 34 inch TV definately makes a difference compared to my 17 inch monitor. Another thing about the PS2 is the 128 bit engine, its running like one of our 1.2 ghz systems, now thats one thing that deifinately makes a difference to GT3.
Besides there isn't really many good PC racers. e.g. IMO the NFS series really aren't that great, the consoles have had much better games for ages, but for a PC they are still good games, but I wouldn't compare them to console games ( unless the only thing you care about is the graphics, and thats not me).

I'm not trying to piss anyone off, so don't get too excited, I love my Rig just as much as the next guy

peace

I couldn't agree with you more, Yoshi. Mmmm... What I wouldn't do for a good DX8 racer, running on a GF3.
