How long before open-ocean freejacking ships becomes a thing?

So, I was reading the following article and it made me wonder how long it would be before the first successful hijacking of a cargo vessel on the open ocean takes place? Should we expect any open-ocean hijacking operators to be countered by armed autonomous robots, too?

These vessels will eventually use autonomous dancing robots that will challenge the hijackers to a dance off before mercilessly killing them.

What a time to be alive.

So are we organizing an ATOT pirate crew or not? We're all too old for that ninja crap so pirating seems like a viable profession.

Check with Emilio Estevez. He loves to Freejack.

Pirate attacks tend to occur closer to land. The most commonly known hot spot is off the coast of Somalia, though southeast Asia has had more action in recent years.

There can be sporadic pirate attacks in other areas, such as the Swiss cargo ship hijacked off the east coast of Africa a couple of weeks ago. As in most modern attacks they didn't take the cargo they took the crew as hostages for ransom money.

Yah. Not hard to track the ship, or even containers these days if they wanted to. I suppose with no crew they might start threatening to scuttle the ship as ransom. Either that or a hit and run theft where they get the manifest for high value containers, pop the locks and steal the contents. Container theft would probably only be a nuisance. Sinking ships they'd have to respond to.

I haven't been to this forum in quite some time and I'm a little dismayed to see what it has become. I clicked this link thinking there would be an actual discussion.

What would a bunch of tech nerds have to offer in the way of insights into ocean piracy?

This has historically been an interesting place that produced insightful comments, but I'm not getting that vibe anymore. It's fine if that's how the culture has adapted over the last few years, but it's still surprising to me. I haven't browsed the forums in 18 months or so and things have changed quite a bit since then. I think I'll go back into hiding.
