Anybody knows if they will come out in the next few months or so? I can probably wait for until June for the upgrade. I dont want to be spending extra money on a Windows 8 upgrade later which is why I'm delaying the purchase.

rumors oct this year? but you cant trust rumors

just get your device when you need/want it, and the price:features:performance is right...

and it's not like Windows 7 is outdated: a lot of enterprise environments are just beginning to switch over to windows 7 from XP (or even just testing Windows 7 right now)

I'm not sure that you'll want windows 8 to be honest. I have a strong feeling that it's going to be another Vista.

Slightly off-topic but do they still have that program? I don't remember it with Win 7 but perhaps it's because I wasn't looking for a laptop then. I remember buying a couple of laptops during BF sale years ago with the free mail-in Vista but never received either copy.

Yes, they had it for Win7. I got my laptop upgraded that way.

That may depend on just how quickly the OEMs can figure out what they want to do with Windows 8. It seems like Microsoft has been keeping them in the loop pretty well, so it should take to long for OEM-specific upgrades to roll out.

My guess? right around November-December this year.

I've used Windows 8 Developers Edition and its basically made for a touch screen environment. Also Windows XP has support until 2014. There is no start button so all new apps/programs have to be scrolled from the right to the left and doing it with a mouse gets tiring. There's shortcut buttons for getting you into a windows screen environment and then you could create from explorer shortcuts to your programs and have them on the screen. Its a touch environment for the next generation of youth they learn it and its normal to them and were odd/old.
Anyway don't worry about having Win 8 you'll probably see it first on a phone and then on a tablet in possibly businesses such as hospitals where the fit is designed better.

Actually, I have read that the lenovo ideapad yoga should be coming out with ivy bridge and windows 8, and that the release date for the yoga should be late Q1 or Q2.... the details are a bit unclear but definitely something to keep an eye on if you're interested in windows 8.
