How long after someone dies do you leave them on you buddy list?

😕
is this a parody thread?

if they are dead, whats the point in keeping them on your list? its not like they're going to be talking to you again

This sounds like a Seinfeld question... I'd say until six days after the funeral, unless you have never met them in person in which case until one day after the funeral.

It seems like it would be that simple, but it's really not. I had a friend die a few years ago, and her name is still on my buddy list. When I periodically clean my list, I just can't bring myself to remove it. Her phone number is still in my phone, too. My wife inherited her car and has never changed the time on the clock or reset the radio stations.

Death makes you do funny things in the name of sentimentality.

i'm glad to say i've never had to deal with this particular problem, but i'd follow state 08's suggestion and create a passed away catagory as to remember the person. anyway, if i deleted it, he wouldn't be able to IM from the great beyond!

yup, yup. still have my next door neighbot on my buddy list and he died on 9/11/2002 (note: not 2001) and was wondering if this is normal.

A girl from my high school killed herself during freshman year of college. It was eerie that her screenname stayed signed on for weeks. I think she's still on my buddy list.

my best friend's gf died senior year of h.s. she's still on my list, with a buddy alert attached. A friend said he saw her sign on, on the 1 year anniversary of when she died

Did you punch him in the head? If not you have failed as a human being.

Yeah, cuz you know it's so much easier for a spirit to communicate through intarweb than straight to a human...
