How lenient is ATi with RMAs?

My 9800XT built by ATi's fan died. I removed the fan to check if I could revive it. In doing so, I broke the fan. I openly admitted it in a letter I wrote to ATi describing the problem. However, I was not trying to modify the card, I was simply trying to fix the problem so I could continue using the card. The card was never overclocked or abused.

Anyone think they'll at least relace the fan for me?

You've made full disclosure. If they give you an RMA number with that knowledge, it's all good.

They are extremely lenient. I used an aftermarket fan that killed my All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro after a few weeks. I did not overclock (just wanted a quieter fan), but I knew that replacing the stock fan voided my warranty. I RMAed my card and explained everything that I did and even acknowledged that my warranty was voided. They sent me a replacement card after a few weeks.

"built by ati" - are you saying this isnt an actual ATI card? if so then you have to rma it to the company (xtasy, leadtek, etc) not to ATI
and wtf are you doing writting them a letter saying YOU broke the fan? just RMA it...

"Built by ATi" != "Powered by ATi" 😉
