How legit is Veritest's in-home computer placement?

Why would anyone need anyone to come into their own home to place a computer. Just find a desk and an outlet!
 
It appears to have something to do with testing real-world QoS for residential broadband connections.

I'm concerned I'd be a bricks-and-mortar spam operation without knowing it... lol
