How is your company's parking situation?

A lot of people at my job are starting to get super pissed about the parking situation. There is approx 3k people here...According to the company to last own this property, there was only 1800 employees here. Basically, it's a total shit show for parking, lunch, bathroom.. Anything. Now with Labor Day almost here, once this holiday passes and winter comes, parking is going to be a mad house. People will start getting here at 5 or 6am just to park in a spot that won't get snowed on. It seems like this company put almost zero effort or thought into this problem, they just bought the property because it was a good bargain.

So I guess my real question is aimed at people who work for larger companies. How are all those things taken care of? Has there ever been any problems? Right now the current solution is for anybody who can't find a spot to drive to the original HQ and take a bus back here. All in all, add 60 minutes to your commute if this happens.

We use to have free parking with about 4 or 5 massive lots. Over a thousand spaces. During the Fall, it'd be half-empty.

Then they decided that so much real-estate in a very expensive city could be better utilized, so they through in a few buildings. Parking lots got shifted to other vacant adjacent parcels of land, but with fewer spaces and premium parking. Now there are just enough spaces, people bitched and moaned that they had to pay (unionized), then sucked it up and paid. Public transit appears to be more used now with some using scooters (? tiny skateboard with a handle for one foot) to travel from the bus stop.

We rent two floors in our building and there is a parking garage controlled by access card (companies have to pay extra to allow their employees to park inside) and surface parking immediately surrounding the building. The building prohibits you from parking in the surface lot if you have garage access. They will check your license plate (which the employee provides when they get their access card) and write you a warning if you are caught.

Plenty of spaces in the garage though so parking isn't a problem...

We have 900 employees, and I've never seen our lot more than 80% full. We just have one big lot out back. It's about a 5-minute brisk walk from the farthest point in the parking lot to my desk, which is about the farthest point from the parking lot.

2 cars one spot = 1 car gets blocked in. You must live in a sparsely populated town.

I live in a large metro area and we don't have this.
The only place I've seen something like that was NYC with double and triple parking on the streets.

As far as my work, we have plenty of available parking. Our building complex consists of 3 building with 18-20 floors each and a hotel with 16 floors. We have 4 levels of under ground parking for 2 building, surface parking on the west side of the complex, and four 6 level garages on the east. Then there are 2 surface lots for visitors.

Amazing. I park about 15 feet from the side entrance which is about 20 feet from my desk

At the last place I worked they were running out of parking spaces and it was a 12 minute walk from my car to the door. Last I heard the city rejected their application to expand parking and they will completely run out of parking spaces in two months at the rate they are hiring...

It's not a problem. It's a large place with parking all over depending on what side of the building you work at. I mean you have things like today when the Union is stamping their little feet in protest of the big bad company, so they purposefully fill up the executive side of the lot early so the higher ups all have to walk further. But most days you just park and go about your business.

9 floors of nearly unlimited, convenient, and covered parking. Once every few months it will take ten minutes to get out in the evening, but that's not much of a complaint.

Then the walk is completely covered into my building. Takes five minutes, but I like the exercise anyways.

Many thousands of people in my office. There's probably a few hundred spots undergroud. I think it's $29 to park for the day.

We can park anywhere in the lot. Most people park in the back lot, though some park on the sides of the building. Customer parking is mostly on the sides and front. I always park directly across from the back door, about 30 feet.

During the months with no snow on the ground, we just have enough parking for everyone with a couple open spots. As soon as the snow starts covering up the lines to each parking spot, people forget how to park. People park side ways, take up two spots, too close, etc. Drives me nuts...

The main parking lot for my building was recently closed to turn into a city park. So, now I work in a 10 story building, with something like 2k employees with literally 150 parking spots, all of which are on monthly contract. Next nearest parking is about 4 blocks away and charges $10 a day, and is first come first serve.
Luckily I take the train in (although I walk about a mile to get to work from the train, so it sucks in bad weather)
