How is Vonage as a phone service?

I am looking to save money and have been looking at using my cable service for the phone. Vonage seems to be the cheapest, how are they as a service and is the phone quality decent?

Vonage is good as long as you have a good internet connection. Latency = jitter.

How high is your uplaod speed?


FOr the most part, if you have 256kb/s or faster and a decent QoS router, it should sound excellent..unless you use bittorrent a lot

I don't use bit torrent at all. My upload is 350 or so. And the service from comcast the last few months has been pretty good. I am using a netgear router but will be switching to a better one soon. It would be so much cheaper than using my dial up. I think I am going to try it.

And unless you are a light BT user, don't expect to have decent, non choppy/broken/missing phone calls.

Vonage has been excellent as phone service with the same features as a $40+ a month POTS service. We don't use the phone that much, but when we want to make long distance calls, the $14.95 a month is well worth it, plus having a phone number in multiple ZIP codes for only $5 extra helps for friends and family out of town. The ability to manage all of the features online, but receive voicemails electronically is just icing on the cake.

Their tech support is absolutely awful (india), but otherwise they are good.
