How is UPS with handling insurance claims?

Sold a laptop to a buddy in the FS/FT forums. Laptop was working perfectly with no physical defects before shipping (pictures for proof too) and I go to ship it. I actually had the UPS store package it for me also and from what I saw, they did a real good job. Buyer receives it and he says that the box looked all mangled like somebody threw it around or used it as a step stool. The top of laptop was cracked and it didnt boot anymore and the hard drive sounded like a jet engine. UPS said they will pick it monday to inspect it. How do these things usually turn out?

I don't know, but wouldn't you be able to take them to small claims if they don't make it right?

UPS will need to see the packaging and damage to the system then they will probably screw you areund for a few weeks and eventually cut a check if you bought the insurance. If you didn't buy insurance I think $100 is covered.

Well I got $300 worth of insurance

Normally I'd say you're screwed, but since the UPS Store packed it, you may have a decent chance of getting the claim honored.
