Alright, as the download approached 5K, I thought hmm, not bad for 56k.
It approached 6K/s. Pretty good, I suppose.
It then reached 7K/s. I thought to myself, WTF? The theoretical maximum is supposed to be 52,000 bps, and 7KB*8 = 56,000.
It then went to 7.4KB/s.

I'm on a crappy ISP, not only is it free, it is highly unreliable. This all leaves me thinking .... what the hell? I know compression is a possibility, but ....i'm still...speechless.

picture. The calculator in the background was me calculating the kbits per second.

I can't wait until March 13. This whole 56k thing is freaking me out.
