How is this overclock?

I see no GPU overclocking forum here (just CPU).

First time OC'ing. This is my card.

This is my OC result.

I'm surprised most get 990 or 1000Mhz on this, but I can get 1050/1275 that can breeze through 3DMark11 & OCCT stress test.

During gaming, temp never goes above 50C, while my old HD4850 went to 90C (wtf).

Anything else I should throw this at?

Not bad at all. My TFII 6870 went to 1100 core.
Lucky you cause my PowerColor 6870 locked up on a 50Mhz OC then when I rebooted and went for a 30Mhz OC the card completely shit the bed and I mean completely what a shame I only had the card for a few hrs and only teted it out on two games before it crapped out. Powercolor sucks I will not be buying again from powercolor that being said as I understand it the 6870 is a terrible OCing card to begin with now I went back to nvidia.

6 series cards just overclocked like crap. Pretty much like the 5 series.

I think the 6850 has lots of OCing head room but the 6870 being already highly Clocked from the factory @ 900mhz I honestly would not safely expect much more out of them though I did expect a small 50Mhz OC to be easily attainable what a dam shame $135 for a 6870 would have been a great buy if it were not a defective card.

Just went another round of testing.

I really wanted a 10 more mhz to 1060, but can't do it.

3DMark11 OC log:

STOCK
p4203 / p4196
4264 / 4718
4119 / 4139
3904 / 3830

1020/1260 @ 1.231
p4518
4718
4139
3830

1050/1300 @ v1.231 crashed
1050/1300 @ v1.299 crashed

1050/1275 @ v1.299 (most ideal so far)
p4610 / p4617 / p4634
4839 / 4841 / 4843
4122 / 4156 / 4197
3917 / 3917 / 3976

1050/1275 @ v.1231 crashed

1075/1275 @ 1.299 crashed
1060/1275 @ 1.299 crashed

Pretty happy with it. That's a free whole 150Mhz gain / 14% boost. My old HD4850 could barely muster 50Mhz / 8%~

That's a very, very good result. Happy that the parts I recommended are working very well for you. :)

Maybe you could try the Crysis/Crysis Warhead for a good gaming stress test.

Yea thanks. Our rig runs the game in following:
(All in 1920 x 1080 with max settings, otherwise noted)

Diablo 3: 110~ fps, I play with Vsync on which is smooth as butter @ 60fps.

Dota 2: 90~ fps, flawless 60 fps with vsync

Those are two games I made this rig for, and it destroys them. Some demanding games:

Crysis 2: 55-60 fps with vsync

Arkham City: 45-50~ fps with vsync

BF3: 50-55 fps with vsync at High (not ultra)

Awesome rig.

That makes me happy, especially given the budget which we had to work with. That you can make such an awesome PC for under $600 is amazing, and you even got a golden 6870. BF3 is an extremely demanding game, and you're able to play it smoothly at High!

Another bonus is that the i3-2120 and HD 6870 are power sippers, so over time you'll see they were excellent choices when it comes to the power bill.

Anyway, congrats on getting a great gaming system for less than $600. :)

I didn't think the 5 series were that bad of overclockers. Not great, but there were plenty of 1GHz+ 5770's, 5850's, and 5870's. Even my Sapphire Vapor-X that had no voltage control could get to 945MHz. NOt spectacular, but I wouldn't call it crap either.

Nice job OP. Diablo 3 is a nice game, it reminds me how demanding graphics are nice to have, but for me they hardly make a game... just part of the equation.

It isn't necessarily the overclocking headroom, although Barts had next to none either way, but the comparatively small gains gotten from overclocking compared to Fermi. VLIW5/4 just loves shaders I guess.

very nice OC

My 6870 only gets up to 960 core before It crashes in unigine. It's a solid bang for buck card in the sub $200 market.
