Get a cheaper Antec case, a better monitor and if you can a P4 2.26B.

I believe the monitor to be the most important part of a high-end computer system.

what would be a good monitor?

I would try to stay away from compaq for monitors if I were you. They are generally more expensive then other monitors. I would go with a samsumg monitor myself.

If I were you, I would get an i845G chipset-based motherboard. Either the EPoX 4G4A(I|+) or the Abit BG7 would be good choices.

if you were to get a P4 2.26b it will not work properly in that motherboard as its not designed to work with 533fsb CPUs, there is a cold boot issue above 132mhz. When you power up the system at 133fsb or higher, it wont post. You shut the system off and turn it back on and the fail safe kicks in and boots it at 100fsb, and takes you straight into the bios. If you leave the setting at whatever you had it set at and restart the computer it will work, it just wont post all the time from a full power down.

Its not really a major thing, but it is quite annoying.

What about a P4B533 for the motherboard? That's 845E... or is 845G better?

If overclocking is your goal, I would go for the asus p4s533 or epox 4g4a. The epox boards usually come with dip switches for the cpu vcore, so cold booting won't be a problem. The asus board may have the extra jumper for cold booting that boosts the vcore by +.10. The samsung monitors work great and come with a 3 year warranty. I use the syncmaster 753df available for about $155-189.

The i845G is a better chipset. The P4B533-V has the i845G chipset and its a great board, but its also pricey. If you're on a budget, get the EPoX 4G4A(I|+) or the Abit BG7.
