His shaking hands suggest Parkinsons, but the fact that he has trouble standing doesn't mean his mind is failing. If he wants to keep working, and he's getting re-elected, and he's doing a good job of advocating good ideas, now, I don't see any reason for him to quit.

Senator Byrd...

Does it matter if he can stand? I recall a certain president who had problems standing as well...

Sure his mind is not failing?

I guess this is pick on old people day?

I hope I'm that lucid when I'm his age.

Respect your elders. Didn't they teach that in elementary school?

In fact he is one of the pillars of the Senate, and truly highly respected by members of both parties. If we had a Senate full of members of his caliber we would be infinately better governed.

Pillar? Really?

(From the Daily Kos) Is this pillar-like behavior?

Sen. Byrd is the first answer to the question of what's wrong with government.

Edit: And it's nice to know, with all that's going on in the world, Mike Vick's dogfighting is the most pressing issue of the day.

Strom Thurmond was, what, 101 when he left the senate? At least Byrd took the correct side in politics. :)

Senator Byrd...

Looks like Parkinsons to me. Not something that affects ones mind, not very nice to say he should step down based on a disease he has no control over. Maybe stem cells would help?

Do you have evidence to support the accusatoin? If not, what makes you think it's fair in any way for you to suggest it?

Pillar of the White Power community you mean? But wait, he apologized, so its ok. Alls well that ends lynched. I mean well.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/...R2005061801105_pf.html

In the early 1940s, a politically ambitious butcher from West Virginia named Bob Byrd recruited 150 of his friends and associates to form a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. After Byrd had collected the $10 joining fee and $3 charge for a robe and hood from every applicant, the "Grand Dragon" for the mid-Atlantic states came down to tiny Crab Orchard, W.Va., to officially organize the chapter.

Well he has changed his ways, and has done more to help African Americans than many of our esteemed Republican heroes, so you can put away your cheap parlor tricks which get trotted out every time the man's name is mentioned.

What he did in the 40's wasn't OK. Owning up to it and apologizing was a start. What he's done in his position of power to rectify the victims of segregation and bigotry mean a lot more.

Bitch about Byrd some more after George W. Bush and his criminal cabal have apologized and and done anything to repair the damage they've done to our nation with their war of LIES.

Remember what you read here. Anything will be forgiven and forgotten by these kool-aid drinkers by as long as you become a Democrat.

How can Jim Bunning still be in Congress? This is a man who is clearly senile. Yet the Republicans keep re-electing him.

if you're going to attack him, attack him for the sheer amount of pork he cuts out for his state, not for his age.

Animals aren't given a choice. A boxer becomes a boxer because he wants to. Plus the losing boxer isn't usually killed. :p

Yep, filibustering the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for 14 hours, voting against the nomination of two black Supreme Court justices, voting against black presidential cabinet members, and throwing out the word 'n*gger' sure are things to be proud of. He also strongly opposed allowing gays to serve in the military and opposes gay marriage.

Make no mistake about it, Senator Byrd is a bigot. He's only changed because politically he can't be an extreme bigot because he wouldn't get elected to office. He's sh!t just like the rest of them.

I respect the senator but I will prefer a young guy with fresh new ideas. He won the re-election easy, i cant believe old folks are still voting for him.
