Looks pretty sweet, I'd rather have an Athlon 4 lappy but thats just me.

I'd get 1 stick of 256 instead of two sticks of 128. The machine has only two mem slots. With two sticks of 128 your upgrade path is hosed unless you toss one or both sticks away.

With 1 256 stick, you can get another 256 stick down the road and pop it right in.

This is just me but I wouldn't waste the money on the DVD/CDRW combo or the sound system. Laptop sound systems suck ass in any shape or form. It is simply impossible to get good sound out of a lappy. Take the money you save by not buying the DVD/CDRW combo and sound system and get an external burner that is 3-4 times faster.
I'd also go w/out the floppy drive. I haven't used a floppy in like 2 years. But that's just me.

One suggestion . . .

get the FREE 1 year extra warranty simplying by buying it with a credit card (like VISA Gold that automatically doubles the manufacturer's warranty to an extra year).

Your 15" TFT is only running at 1024x768 . . . you might consider a higher resolution . . . and if you are considedring any "gaming", a Mobile Radeon or GeForce2Go.

It also seemed to me that Dell Inspiron had better prices vs. value than Presario . . . I got a $1200 Dell 4100 (dude). Works perfectly for me as a desktop rerplacement - this is my 3rd week in Hawaii with it.

I also skipped the expensive CDRW combo by getting the free DVD upgrade and an external USB burner for $90.

<< Better? >>

Well . . . maybe . . .

However, you have given up your CD-RW and DVD-ROM (combo) only for a CD-ROM and extra RAM. You can still get notebook memory cheaper through Crucial . . . however, the upgrade to the better TFT is an improvement.

As to getting a "deal" on an external USB burner, search "Hot Deals" . . . there have been some sales that may still be current.

I think your choice is OK, but you can do better (feature/moneywise) unless you are absolutely comitted to the Presario Notebook Series.

#1 Don't waste your money on a 1.13 or 1.2 P3. Just get a 1Ghz. Trust me, you won't notice any difference in anything you do.
#2 I don't recommend the dvd/cdrw combo drives. Too many problems to list unless all you do is copy text files and music.
#3 For the same price you can have a Dell with an UXGA screen and a Ati Radeon 7500 64MB DDR video card.
#4 For a lot less you can get the same configuration you have posted here, from Dell for about $500 less.
#5 Make sure you are getting full versions of the software included on disk. (Not just located on a seperate partition)
#6 apoppin is right. I would much rather have his machine than the Presario 2700.

If you do this with a 8xcdrw instead of the 16xcdrw you'll get a price of $1987-$100rebate= $1887

+Dell offers 30day price protection from the day you receive your notebook.
So if some super deals come along you just post in the forums and they credit you the difference.

Or if you don't care that much about games but still want to be able to play them-
you can get the SXGA 15" screen with the Nvidia 16MB Geforce which would be $1708-$100= $1608

he still doesnt get dvd on the dell. i suggest you buy a presario 700 model. they are cheaper, and size weight and all are about the same albeit they have km133A integrated graphics which is gonna be slower than the rage mobility m6 by a small bit. if you want like a thin model with a radeon mobility m6 (not the m7 7500) get the 1700. the 2700 and 1700 both have mobility m6.
