So if I want to add another Radeon HD 4870 I could? And by itself it's already comparable to the nVidia card I had, ya?

I also removed the 10k drive and just put two 7.2k's and I'll set that up as a raid 1 (that's the redundancy raid ya? is it supported by the mobo i chose?)

I'd also have to choose Vista 64-bit to take advantage of 8 gigs of ram, ya?

Thanks again for the help guys. I really appreciate it.

Too much on some items,
Too little on other items,
Some components offer better options,
Ya?

I would take a 32bit os, vista HP, or xp pro.

Also grab the 4870 Crossfire.

Awesome rig, hope you get an E0 E8500.

First of all I dont like your choice of dvd burner. Go with the Samsung SATA unit.

Those fans? meh...

Why that ram? go with the Gskill 800 ram. Its like $60 and will be able to OC a little too.

A computer tool kit? wtf..

and yes get Vista 64bit premium.

O also what resolution will you be using? It determines what route to go with your GPU.

I dunno, that might not be that bad a price for the RAM. If I read that correctly, he's paying ~ $135 for 8GB, so not a whole lot more than the 800, even if he never uses it.

The Vista x64 is definitely a good choice though, Vista with 8GB is niiiiiice

I agree about the fan, unless you're getting it purely for looks. I doubt it's particularly quiet, if that matters to you.

If you're planning to use RAID 1 with the intention of never backing your data up, you're misleading yourself. Something like a power surge, flood, theft, etc. will knock out both drives in the array. RAID 1 is solely for limiting downtime in the case of a single-drive failure.

Some people find that gaming on a wireless keyboard/mouse introduce unacceptable lag or dropouts. Personally, I game on a wirelss Logitech mouse and I have no complaints, but opinions on the subject vary.

I don't think that a 750w power supply is overboard (good brand choice too). Is it necessary in this case? No, but it can't hurt.

The 4870 pulls a decent amount of juice and he'll be overclocking the CPU too. It will ensure that the system has plenty of juice and provide for a bit of future proofing for expansion. Since he's building from scratch, might as well go for it. Besides; he's not going for a cheap rig. If you're spending $1500+, might as well go for it. :)

I agree that the Asus burner isn't the best choice. Go for the Samsung SH-S223Q SATA burner (OEM version). I have two of them; they work great.

Overall, solid components you picked out, OP.

One question: What OS are you planning on running? Vista64, I'm assuming? You have more than 4GB of RAM; it would be wasted with a 32-bit OS.

A sata cable?!? Why exactly? Several will be included with your motherboard...just look at the pictures.

Makes sense if he's planning to Crossfire, which he seems to be leaning towards. If not, then it's a bit overboard.

As far as the SATA cable, I think he needs it. Motherboards generally come with two, so if he's getting two HDs plus an optical, he'll need an extra.

Uh what? XP Pro 32-bit for 8GB of RAM? Good call!!

OP: Change the drive for a WD Caviar Black 1TB or 640GB Caviar Blue, ya?
RAID-1 is for downtime not data security, ya?
You could easily get away with a 650TX instead of the 750, ya?
That blue LED case fan isn't as good as some larger and more efficient ones, ya?
The case is nice enough but the quick-fit 5.25" drive bay is a bit misleading as it's screwed in on the other side, ya?
Do you really need a 45-piece toolkit when a screwdriver, pair of tweezers and can of compressed air will do it, ya?
