See if they have a demo at the store you can try. For $1k they should be willing to do that. Might want to call them first so they can get one down off the shelf if you make it sound like you are serious in buying one. Talk to a manager, I'm sure they'd do it.

Horrible for your knees.

So's walking. Buy a wheel chair.

DaShen, Baked:

Walking isn't nearly as damaging. Running on hard surfaces, especially for people who are susceptible to injury, is a very very bad thing. Increased impact can not only lead to bad knees but can flatten arches, cause shin splints, and, in severe cases, cause fracturing along the bones in your lower leg.

instead of being an idiot why don't you try and be supportive. The OP has his own reasons for wanting an elliptical (which could be none of the reasons I mentioned) and we should be supportive of him, especially considering how many people in this country don't get ANY excerise at all.

Next time, try answering someone's question instead of just being a dick.

Except walking is often a necessity. Nub.

Not when you have a wheel chair.

Over the top, and more restrictive than walking :p

Anyway, I'm done replying to your trolling.

Oh, and OP, when I was recovering from a leg injury I used the ellipiticals in my school's gym. They were the type with a huge wheel behind the where you ran, I can't remember the brand off the top of my head, but they were pretty good.

yeh, But I am guessing they were commercial type which are around 3k. I like the ones that our local Golds gym has but I am sure those are expensive as well.

Try it out for yourself, and try it out for as long as they'll let you.

Though I'm a bit skeptical of the range of motion this particular machine will give your legs. It just looks odd to me. I love ellipticals, but the picture makes this one look like a glorified stair-stepper.

Running on hard surfaces is quite bad for those of us that never had any arches. :(

you suck. really. elliptical burns more calories and is better for your knees.

That is crap. It doesn't burn more calories. That is ridiculous. Running definitely burns more calories than elliptical. Plus if you know the proper way of running, you won't get as much impact or shin splints.

I have all my ligaments torn completely on my left ankle. 1 complete tear and a small tear on my right ankle. A fractured right kneecap with strain on the ACL and MCL but not torn, and both knees aren't too good either. All of this from playing basketball.

I can still run after I healed up and a lot of therapy. You just have to do it right and you can always go to a local school and run on the track. It is softer and you burn more calories than on a machine if you do it correctly and even if you don't. I swim and cycle, too.

*****

To the OP, Zombie, I was just just kidding. If I acted like a troll, please accept my humbliest apologies for being a stupid ignorant moron. It is good that you are trying to run on the elliptical and exercise. It is just in my experience people don't use the work out equipment that they buy because it gets too boring after a while. You can't change your work out at all. It is better to just buy a contract with a local gym. That way you can do many different things.

Also, if you swim or cycle or run outside, it is much more enjoyable. I guarantee.
