How is this burner?

I've got $50 of gift money at Circuit City and I figured I could use a cool burner. This Philips is $80 and burns at 12x. Have any of you have experiences with any of Philips drives? I don't mind a coaster or two every so often. So paying $30 for this burner, is it a good buy?

NO stop!

There are 24x lite-ons, Mistimi(sp?😉), and TDKs going for around 60$ after a PM and or MIR, staples and BB respectivly
Actually the 1st burner(which is in a PACIFIC DIGTAL Box can be had for ~$31 AR😉 I know i got one
Check the Hot Deals Forum

May be able to sell your CC credit on the FS/FT forum and go another route not limited yourself to what CC carries

I beleive CC also something on sale higher than 12x

I don't want MIR, PM, or any other of that stuff. A burnt CD is a burnt CD is a burnt CD. Either way it gets done, it's still a burnt CD. All I want to know is this burner worth the $30 from my pocket. If you say no, please explain. Don't just say "Plextor roxors!".

Personally I'd steer clear of Philips burners, they had major problems in the past, so much so that they were successfully sued for selling a bad burner. Maybe they changed their ways, I haven't heard but I myself wouldn't trust them again. (unless you find out it's a rebagged burner, but I doubt it is since they actually manufactor burners themselves)

No real personal experience with that model. Friend of mine has just that thing though, and he found it to be pretty picky with media (some would just not work at faster than 4x).

I think there are better deals.

Sigh even after he said what kind of answer he wanted still no on track replies... A friend of mine bought a phillips and he thought it was ok. Not particulary fast, but no major problems either... few coasters, but not to a point where you want to return it. I'd say if you can get it for $30 bucks go for it.
