MSI k8n neo4 mobo
3800 x2 toledo stock heatsink
corsair value select pc3200 ram
nzxt trinity case with front/back 120mm fans
seasonic s-12 430W

I want to hit 2.4 GHz. people seem to be hitting this easily with the stock heatsink, but
I will be running the gigabyte x800 xl which has passive cooling.

Ther gigabyte model runs very hot, and reviewers warned against using it with a cpu/case without good ventilation. Will this pose a problem if I overclock? I guess I would have to get an XP-90 and a better fan if it would. Also I have no idea what kind of ram is required for a good OC.

thanks :)

What is really hot???? I have seen them run in sonata cases with one exhaust fan and stock with overvolting and stay under 60c with 2.5ghz......

Do you have to overvolt any to get it to run stable at 2.4ghz...can it run near stck vcore???

OK....It was the use of "it runs very hot" before you now have edited it t Gigabyte that made me think you had it in your possession.....

It could be Gigabytes temp reporting...I just can tell you many have been using the stock hsf and getting reasonable oc'd to 2.5ghz without heat issues...and some using similar 1 fan cases...

Well with the use of ratios you can still use average PC3200 sticks....If you want 1:1 and with the 3800+'s 10x multi you will need ram capable of 480 to 500ddr...

I receommend some of the patriot extreme memory I was testing....It does 520ddr for me at cas 2.5 with only 2.8v.....I think it will work for you nicely....it is rated at cas 2-3-2-5 at 400ddr.....they have some lsightly speed graded stuiff above that but I dont know if it wil make much of difference for you...

You could also go for OCZ Platinum sticks. They can go as high as DDR650 with moderate timings.

[Basing this off AT's reviews...they've gotten DDR652 with those sticks]
