Any ideas people ?

Cool 😉

Now, what I remember I should do is basically take all the settings in my BIOS back to Default, and then start with the FSB of the CPU, correct ?

Oh yes ! Thanks for reminding me. Shall I'll lock it at the 66.66/33.33 or take it 1 notch above, as suggested by most people for the P4PE ?

np. 🙂 I think DAPUNISHER is our inhouse P4PE specialist... and I seem to remember that you need to set it at one notch up if you're going beyond 160fsb...

Really ? So if I don't go to 160FSB, can I get away with the 66.66/33.33 setting, or should I up it by a notch anyway.

Well in that case, I would leave it at 66/33 and start oc'ing. Once you think you've reach the limit or start having problems, then notch it up and see if that helps you go further. 🙂

Hello again folks. Here's the 1st set of results of my new P4 2.4B C1 :

Updated BIOS to 1003 (Official, not Beta - dated April 14 2003).
ALL Settings in BIOS are Default, except these :

CPU Frequency Multiple is 18x (Unchangeable, of course)
" External Frequency - 175
Memory Frequency - AUTO
AGP/PCI Frequency - One notch above default, so it's 67.26/33.63
CPU VCore - Changed from 1.525 to 1.550
DDR Reference Voltage - 2.70V

Currently overclocked from 2.40 to 3.15GHz.

Now, the system seems to be OK. I ran Prime95 Torture test for about 45 mins. or so, and it seemed fine.

Idle temperatures - M/b is about 33-34C. CPU is about 48C
During Prime95, CPU went up to 62C

I'm not too happy with these temperatures. At the moment, I'm using a Thermaltake TT8025A-25B fan, as the supplier here screwed up and could not deliver my Sunon for over 6 weeks, so I just went and got this fan.

Any suggestions about the temps ? Mind you, it has been about 26C here in London, which is much more than the average for this time of the year for the U.K, so maybe that's a factor ?

Those temps are okay, a bit high, but okay. Thermaltake, in my experience, isn't the best hs/fan manufacturer.

If it's a big concern for you, try running Prime95 overnight. If your PC doesn't crash or reboot, then you're fine, and have nothing to worry about with the temps and general stability. DivX encoding is also a good stress testing tool. If your processor is that warm when running those two tasks, and your comp is stable...you have no problems! After all that fun stuff try running memtest86 to finally make sure you won't have any problems.

Hope this helps! All in all, the temp is ok as long as your PC doesn't mind it and stays stable. Not "I can loop 3DMark 10 times" stable, but P95, DivX, memtest86 stable. Then again, maybe I'm a bit anal retentive 😉

Hmmm, that does make sense.

I was obviously unsure of the temps, that's why I've stopped at 175FSB. Haven't even started tweaking the RAM, which is what I think I should do next.

I left Prime95 run overnight for about 8 hours, and it was absolutely fine, just that the CPU temp got to 62C.

I wasn't too sure of this TT fan, but I didn't really have much choice. What would you suggest I put on the Alpha8942 then ?

Really ?

I actually bought the Alpha just recently, after reading different opinions, and it seemed to be a good one. Which one do you recommend then Thugs ? The new Zalman CNPS7000 ?

Ok, after reading through your thread, I've realized I made a mistake, but as people have already said, since there was no review/comparision for these 2, not many people would have known. Thanks for the info.

I've just tried to push the FSB up to 180 and had tons of problems, so I've just come down to 178 (3.2GHz).

I'll leave the system running for a few days and see how well it holds here, and then start with memory tweaking. Any suggestions there ?
