I have a TT big typhoon sitting here, un used, and was wondering if i should pay the $ 15 for new mounting brackets for this sct 775 set up or pay ~$50 for a cooler that will blow it away.

Cpu will be a B3 q6600 And an abit IP35-E board. I will like to get this cp to 3.2 at least.

IMO the Big Typhoon is a good heatsink.

But does not stand up to such heatsinks as the Tuniq Tower or a few of the ThermalRight heatsink or for that matter the Zalman 9700.....

Yet temps accross the baord are within 4-6 degrees of all of them.

B3, but previous owner had it to 3.4 with the tuniq.

I had a Big Typhoon waiting to use when I got my E6750, but I had lost some parts that I wasnt able to use it going from an AMD to Intel platform. People are so overblown now a days about temps, the fact is a good cooler will do what you want it to do without being the best out there. The new chips run cool already yet the goal for the lowest temps keeps people buying coolers they may not really need, but hey if it makes them sleep better at night more power to them. I just dont believe that having a few degrees difference between the best and good coolers is going to really determine any mind blowing differences in anything.

What case with what fans?

Antec P182.

With aftermarket fans in the rear, top and front of the upper hard drive cages that do 60cfm+ with good static pressure I'd say you probably can.

On stock settings, absolutely. With a mild overclock, sure. If you want to push a chip, i mean push it, pull it, tweak it and spend days vaying for stability on a breaths edge then yes, temperature really is going to make that big a difference.
