How is the skiing in Canada?

For the past few years, me and my buds have been flying out from Chicago to Colorado to go skiing. I was thinking it might be fun to do the same thing but go to Canada instead. I also figure it might be cheaper to ski in Canada as well. What are the closest places to Chicago to fly into and go skiing in Canada?

EDIT: Spelling :(

Don't go to Martock ski hill in Nova Scotia. In fact don't go east of quebec at all unless it's to marble mountain.

The New England area isn't that bad. It's just no where near as good at the West Coast.

Unfortunately for me, driving to Killington/Stowe/Sunday River is much cheaper/easier than flying out to Lake Tahoe every weekend. So I take what I can get.

Sunday river is indeed pretty good.

I can recomend Marble Mountian. Taking a trip up there at the end of January, and maybe a 2 day trip next week cause I'm just iching to hit the slopes (it is a pretty short drive for me, the ferry is a 20 minute drive away from me right now).

But if you want a W/B type hill it won't even compair like other's have said. Oh, and and I can vouch for Martock being the saddest excuse for a ski hill in Canada. I'd never pay $20 to own the hole hill let alone a lift ticket. :)

Tremblant in Qubec is quite nice also. (plus you get to make fun of the frenchies, just make sure they don't understand english and you can have a good time mocking them to there faces without them having a clue).

I guess the closest (western) place from Chicago to Canada would be Banff/Lake Louise (~2 hours outside of Calgary). Lake Louise itself is a great area, but it doesn't get alot of snow (140 in. ave. IIRC). If you hit it during a good snow year, the skiing can be great - awesome bowls. Sunshine is an area close to Banff, gets alot more snow than Lake Louise, but I thought the terrain was a bit lacking.
Whistler/Blackcomb is the other "major" choice in Western Canada (2hrs. out of Vancouver). The place is huge. The alpine area at both places is gigantic. I literally got lost 2 times on Whistler - I had no idea where I was in relation to anywhere else on the mountain - due to the vast expanse of the bowls. Weather can be a problem at WB (it rained hard the day we got there), but the village is great (all pedestrian, nice clubs, easy to find/quasi legal smoke).
There are some other nice places in BC like Fernie, Red Mt., and Big White, but they are smaller and relatively less accessible.
Have you ever been to Jackson Hole or Big Sky, or other places in the states besides CO??

Go to Tremblant or Mont. Ste. Anne in Quebec, or completely forget about the eastern half of
North America. Whistler/Blackcomb is the best in western Canada, however if you wouldn't
mind/prefer a quieter resort that still offers great skiing I'd also recommend Sun Peaks (great
place, 50% cheaper than WB), Lake Louise (after February) and to a lesser extent, Fernie and
Panorama.

Of course, any decision should really depend upon who's getting the snow. Even Whistler can
suck when you unluckily arrive after several days of rain.

It's kind of a shame as I live in Vancouver and have never been skiing... We've got 3 mountains that are like a 30 min drive max from downtown, and then there's Whistler. Ah well.

We've got Blue Mountain in Ontario, but IMHO Whistler is the best (and biggest) known.
