I am looking for a IDE RAID card, and came across the Silicon Image Sil680. I found this card on ebay for $15? Is this a good card? How does it stand up to Promise or Highpoint?

I'm using one with a pair of 80gb 7200 RPM drives in a RAID0 (stripe), 1x Western Digital SE (8mb cache), 1x IBM 2mb cache. I paid £20 for it :) There's no problems I've had with it, it's definately faster than the single WDSE :)

I haven't used Promise or Highpoint, so i can't compare, sorry! :)

I like it. Works great with a 160 and 200 gb Maxtor non raided. Compgeeks should have it for 18$ if you don't want to deal with ebay.

Similar setup here: 2x WD 80GB 7200rpm 2MB cache drives in RAID0. I had a problem with it with WinXP:
After the install completes, it puts me to the desktop. If I reboot then, the computer will not boot to Windows - it blue-screens on me during bootup. I tried it a few times; same thing each time. Then, I installed SP1a when I was at the desktop after a fresh install - rebooted then, no problem. I vaguely remember something about Windows having trouble with clearing the write cache, or some kind of cache when it restarts, but that available patches would take care of it. I guess so.
I don't know if it is a fluke with my combination of hardware, or maybe the phase of the moon, not sure.

My mum uses one in non-RAID configuration. It is better than Promise or Highpoint because it can control any device you can plug into it (optical drives etc). I bought it at compgeeks and found a newer flash ROM available at siimage.
