i currently have a Bose Center channel (don't have model number because i never really cared for it, got it as a gift and it was free)

I'm wondering how does the Polk CS1 Center speaker performs?

i have a
Onkyo sr606
Polk PSW10 sub
2x polk r50 satellites
2x bose 161 rear surrounds (also, gift)

minus the bose bashing, how will the Polk CS1 compare/perform? i'm looking for quick replies guys i'm planning on ordering for father's day today

It should definitely match the L/R speakers better. As far as performance comparison, that's for you to decide.

I've never owned one but the only downsides I could see to any speaker would be #1) Sound and general performance. This kind of thing you can only decide for yourself when the speaker is connected to your system playing in your room. Even demo'ing at a store won't be the same.

After that it might be things like mounting, placement, terminals, size. Things that I wouldn't really care about as much as the sound quality and how well it blended with the other speakers.

I own one, had it paired with the R50 towers a while back and I felt it was pretty good, it sounded clear and I never had any complaints about it. Actually I should get rid of it since I don't have a surround setup now and have no use for it and it'll just be extra baggage when I move.

I have the CSi25, which is similar to the CS1, along with R50 mains. It's basically the bookshelf version of the R50 with the same woofers and tweeter. I didn't get the CS1, because it's a match for the Polk Monitor line, but it should still be pretty close to the R50 and definintely closer than the Bose speaker. I think it's on sale at Newegg right now, but you might already know that.

This is what I have, and I'm happy.

Let us know what you think once you get it set up. I've been very pleased with my Polk setup, especially considering that I bought 5 speakers plus a sub for less than $500.

Well, a lot of the Bose problems comes from having undersized speakers. The vsc10 has a height of 3.2" and a depth of 6". The CS1 has a height of 7" and a depth of 9.6". I don't know what size speakers the vsc10 has, but the two 5 1/4" mid/woofs wouldn't even fit in there. I'm pretty sure there will be a night-and-day difference between the two speakers. Couple that with the much better timbre matching to your mains, and you got yourself a great upgrade for a very low cost.
