How is the Panasonic PVL452 VHS-C?

My dad just bought an open box (discontinued model) from CC for $265 and it seems to be pretty good, except for the fcat that its VHS-C. Is this really that big of a deal, since I thought that VHSC could only record 30 minutes of video. A feature I really like is that it has a slot for SmartMedia cards, with an 8MB card included (enough for like 1.5 seconds of video)
