I only played a few games shortly after release. There were quite a few people then... Don't know about now...

There never were particularly a lot of people online, however, you shouldn't have much problems finding a match.

There aren't too many people on. The only games I can seem to find using the custom search are ones in Asia, with the occasional low ping one. I guess most North Americans are playing it on consoles?

I played the game a lot a few months after launch and never had a problem finding a match. It might be worse now though, especially since SSF4 is out on consoles and there are no plans to release it on PC. Might have caused a lot of PC SF4 players to switch to console or give it up.

I played right after the game was released, it got to the point where i had to turn off auto match finding, I haven't checked lately though. Pretty funny people would ask why I don't talk because I would have my mic on the ground and they could hear my game.

IMO, this game type died with the SNES. Ever since the invention of 3D graphics, these types fighting games have been slowly dying.

You do realize that SF4 takes place in a 2D world and there's no 3D fighting, ya?

This game is a lot of fun, and surprisingly most of my scrub tactics from the SNES days still work. Sorta.

When the game was released it was pretty easy to find a match. Not a ton of people playing but it wasn't terrible either. Be prepared to get absolutely crushed though, at least 50% of the players back then were insanely good and had studied/played the game a ton.

Still had a blast though, and the matches are over quick so it's not like you waste too much time playing against the experts.
