My friend was an artist in NYC. They make jack squat, because artists are a dime a dozen in large cities.

Ok, i just realized i've been a little jaded with what to expect from NY. I've only been there during the summer, and i can handle the heat and the humidity. How are the other 3 seasons like? How does the subway get affected, and how is morning rushhour?

It can get quite cold in the winter. Snow is pretty common.

Subway stations are always hot (especially in the summer time), but as they run underground throughout Manhattan (above ground in many of the outer boroughs) they are rarely affected by the weather. Rush hours are crowded, but it all depends on what trains you take.

this is not true... the subway platforms have been like saunas the past couple of days.
oy vey~

its very hot and humid the last two days. But its great to look at all the women. nice shorts and skirts, tank tops, etc.

Amen, i just moved to nyc in april. The women are stunning in the summer.
My salary isnt anything amazing, and I live in the east village. I can comfortable go out, do groceries, and treat myself here and there.

you live alone or with roommates? you can't be living comfortably in the east village unless you're rich or with roommates. i shared a 2 bedroom w/ 3 other guys in union square for 1800 and thats considered cheap. EV rates are like 1500 for a studio, unless you're living on ave d or something.

anyways, where do you live, and can i murder you for your apartment? :)

that's what made me move to dallas, 75k and no state income tax...it was great!!...

back in nyc now, of course I can't spend as carelessly...but before my move to Dallas I had set a foundation here (mortgage on an apt) so it wasn't that bad moving back :)

Union Square in general is more expensive than the East Village. There are some real sh!tholes in the EV

I much prefer living outside the city - Queens, parts of Brooklyn, etc. I'd suggest looking in Astoria, personally. Well connected, and much more affordable.

i don't see where you get that information. i've lived comfortably on sub-$40k salaries in nyc. you just have to live in affordable housing, but some very beautiful apartments outside manhattan are very cheap (and are much more spacious than in manhattan). you'll pocket a few thousand bucks monthly as long as you budget yourself wisely.
