How is the HP SCANJET 4200Cse 36BIT USB COLOR SCANNER

How is the HP SCANJET 4200Cse 36BIT USB COLOR SCANNER????
they sell these all over egay and i need a good scanner, what do you guys think?

I don't have that scanner, but I have the 3300, and I love it very good. very good quality scan. so i can 4200se can't be bad.

Well even the best HP doesn't compare to a professional grade scanner from minolta. But those scanners are part of an imaging system and require thier own computer just to run them, and then you access it over a network. They are in the $150,000 range.

But, obviously that is no comparison.

The HP is a good scanner, though AGFA and UMAX are better in my opinion. Canon is also fairly good and what I have right now for personal use. At work we use UMAX for our clients (we specialize in paperless office systems)

I've seen many, many issues with the HP 4200 scanner. In addition to several of our customers who had problems, we had to RMA two of our own, plus one of our employees who owned one had to replace hers. The funny thing is that HP actually replaced hers for free even though it was a year and a half old (out of warranty by 6 months). The HP technician she talked to told her that they were having alot of issues with those scanners.

HP generally makes good stuff (I have an HP ScanJet 4C that just won't quit) but the 4200 is not a good choice. I am very fond of their 5300 model scanner. After rebate, they can be had for less than $200.

the 4200 is the replacement for the 4100. while the 4100 was great for its time, the 4200 sucked for its time (too many problems with it). the 4200 series is last years model. when my sister was in the market, we were looking at the 4200 also, but too many problems. i told her to get the epson 636u.

basically, any current general scanner suits most needs of most consumers (as opposed to prosumers who know what they want). note, consumers... not business...

i am not saying HP sucks, but the 4200 just sucked.

The scanner did not fare too well in last year's review in PC Magazine:

In our labs, scans from the 4200C tended to be dull
and flat. There were virtually no highlights, and we
saw severe clipping in the shadows. Detail was
reasonable, but the lack of contrast marred sharpness
and made colors appear washed out. The 4200C
earns a score of fair for image quality on our PC
Magazine Labs Scorecard.

Also, don't forget the manner in which HP orphaned all the owners of the 4100 who wished to utilize it under W2K. At first they said "too bad, too sad" we're not going to support it. After a bunch of bad PR, they said "OK, we're sorry, we'll release a W2K update". That was like 6 months ago, still no update. I'm halfway convinced that was BS just to shut us up. Who knows if they'll do the same thing to 4200 owners with the latest greatest offerings from MS. I don't view a scanner as something that I want to upgrade every year or so, it would be nice to be able to use it for years which will mean new operating systems.

Epson Perfection 610, the 1200 is a really good scanner, so I guess that the 610 is good as well

Here's 178 CNET flatbed scanner reviews

The Epson Perfection 610 received a 9 out of 10 rating. I would personally avoid HP, instead buying UMax, Mustek or Epson.

Your cheapest route with coupons, price matching and free shipping (Onvia) would be buying from Staples, Buy or Onvia.

Why do you always start two or three topics relating to the purchase of a single piece of hardware? You had no less than three topics for the monitor purchase. Why is one topic never enough for you? 😱

this topic was about the hp scanjet, the other is any suggestions for a scaner. people who know about this hp scanner will only come here. what monitor purchase?
