I have a 2500 mobile, and they are selling this board at my local pc shop(the ga7n400) for 70 bucks. Not such a bad price. How is this motherboard in general, and how is it for overclocking mobile xp's?. thanks. Also, if you think this one isnt too great, feel free to reccomend one!!!. How does the ga7n400 and asus a7n8x compare?? much of a difference?

The GA-7N400 and the A7N8X are quite similar in features. The "Pro" version of the Gigabyte MB equates with the A7N8X-E "Deluxe", having so many built-in functions. Both are Nforce 2 Ultra systems, and I think both have the desireable MCP-T piece on which the "Soundstorm" audio feature is included. I personally have had better luck with Giagabyte than with Abit (the most popular one of the top three NF2 motherboards seems to have been Abit's NF7-S, with the DFI NF-II in third place). I have no direct experience with either Asus or DFI.

Generally, the Gigabyte board is priced higher than the A7N8X's and the NF-7's, but not as high as the DFI prices usually sit. Your $70 is about 40 or so less than the best Gigabyte price I've seen lately.

so you think I should go for the gigabyte? I went to newegg, and looked under the review for the mobile 2500 and it seems most either have an asus or an abit. Also, would I notice much of a difference between athlon 64 754 3200 and a mobile xp oc'd to 2300mhz or so.

My opinion would be the DFI, Abit, then the Asus for OC. The Gigabyte could be in there too, but I have never used one so I can't really say.

You will notice a difference if you get the Athlon 64. You should only be looking at an Athlon XP Mobile if you're budget-oriented, so getting a $100 socket A board doesn't make too much sense today. However:

ABIT KV7 $52

Pair that with a Mobile and you'll have a wonderful price/performance combo. If you're inclined to go with nVidia, this may be a nice option, though I don't how well it overclocks.
