Hey all I was just wondering does anybody have the Gateway FPD2275w HD grade monitor?

Here are some quick specs:
contrast: 700:1
brightness: 300cd/m^2
Video Inputs: DVI/VGA/Component/S-Video/Composite
capable of HD resolutions up to 1080i (possibly 1080p as the monitor's product tour says)
Picture-in-picture capability
Capable of 1:1 pixel mapping
TN panel

Specs wise it has everything I'm looking for in a monitor (component, HD capable up to 1080i (possibly 1080p), since I'd have this hooked up via DVI to my PC and via component to my PS3, and S-Video for my PS2. The HD capability is important for me because of the PS3 for games and some blu-ray movie watching (Blu-Ray only supports 1080i/p and 480i/p I believe, no in betwee 720p).

However, comments and reviews about this monitor are sparse on the internet, and the ones that are around all complain about backlight bleeding which I have not experienced before really. Other complaints have just been I guess that the colors "don't feel right" I suppose because of the TN panel and possibly having come from a better grade but smaller sized LCD monitor.

I currently have a Dell 2001FP LCD monitor and a Samsung 955DF CRT running side by side right now, and I have absolutely no idea what kind of panel it's using, so I can't readily compare the color grade with anything else other than my CRT monitor. My CRT monitor is extremely dark compared to the Dell though and I have a very hard time making out dark colors with blacks, and upping the contrast/brightness does nothing (I try to keep the colors at a comfortable brightness level and match my LCD as close as possible so I don't keep switching from a lighter to darker screen).

I've checked for backlight bleeding on my Dell with my lights turned off, and first off, the blacks are not very black compared to the CRT, which is pretty much pitch black. Second, although there is no visible backlight bleeding, the light warmth is pretty uneven, as I can see lighter and darker spots littered throughout the screen area.

I'm convinced that backlight bleeding probably won't be an issue for me since I will have something colorful on the screen most of the time to mask the bleeding. Even so, the comments that people make about it are still troubling. The other thing that worries me is the TN panel in the Gateway. Though I have no idea what panel my Dell is using, images and colors look pretty good to me. I have however compared the Gateway 22" and the 24" monitors (the 24" I think has a S-IPS panel in it) at stores, and the colors on the 24" are definitely more bright and vivid, compared to the dull 22".

If I got the monitor, I would be running both the Gateway and the Dell together in a dual screen config. Should I be looking at a different monitor that may have better sepcs? Going bigger or smaller for a better panel (I've heard all 22" monitors use the same TN panel)? I'd like to get others' opinions/comments/suggestions/whatever on this.

I'd primarily be using the monitor for watching anime, movies, watching some Blu-Ray movies, playing PS3 in Hi-Def, playing some occassional PS2, and the occassional quick photoshopping work (if the Dell does have a better panel, I could always just use that for graphic work instead). So based on that, here's what are kind of top priority for me:

- component/composite/s-video video inputs
- capable of at least 1080i, 1080p would be nice

What do you think, is the Gateway the monitor to get?

(pretty long post I know....sorry about that. There was just a lot of ****** I wanted to know and I wanted to address my concerns about what other people have said blah bla hblah).

-edit-
well I've just found out that my Dell 2001fp uses a S-IPS according to this site http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php . I guess going to the TN Gateway would be quite a big difference hm? Maybe I should be looking at monitors that have a similar panel, but I think finding a S-IPS or even a S-PVA panel LCd monitor with the features I'm looking for would cost me out of my range. I'm planning to spend about $400 max give or take a few dollars.

The 22" TN's aren't the best, but I laugh at people who claim how much worse than their S-IPS panels the TN's are. Is there a difference? sure, but for the price 22"'s are pretty solid. Best Buy has the Gateway 22"'s on demo and they look pretty nice, I'm still a CRT lover, I recently had my CRT die so I got a 24" Gateway. The 22" looked great on demo, anyone who claims TN is total crap probably hasn't used a newer panel. I mean they are 6bit, there is some banding, and backlight bleeding (all lcds...)

The gateway is MUCH more expensive then a lot of other 22"'s, this week Best Buy has the Westy 22" for 299 + tax. A great monitor, since it has the same panel as the other 22"'s has tons of inputs too, I almost want to say it has HDMI.

I don't see how any 22" could do 1080i, I know my GF's 22" westy can, but @ 1650x1050 that's not 1080 *shrug*

can somebody in the know fill me in on how you can do 1080 on a monitor that's not 1920x1080?
