They both suck, so not sure. I know my old ti 4600 was faster than my dad's 5200 anyway. More like a sidegrade...

The IQ on the FX series isnt very good...get a radeon 9xxx series. What ever equals the price of the fx5500.

Are you really that cheap? i dont mean it as an insult (as much as it might sound like one) but if your looking to buy a video card which is the basis of output for your whole system. Wouldnt you go higher than $20?>

You mean my system in my sig or my HTPC or my nForce2 or the pc I sold to a friend I'd like to upgrade the video card on? I guess you have "sig display" turned off.
I initially wanted this for my friend who has an old 16MB Vanta. If it's a good performer I wouldn't mind replacing the Ti4200 DX8 in my HTPC (MS-MCE2005) for a DX9.
My flagship pc has an X800 pci-e, so I'm good there.

Sry, my apologies i didnt read that this would be for your HTPC. I guess you could go budget there, for $20 probably is the best card for non gaming.

the FX5500 will be about -10 FPS on old games difference, and + 5 on newer games

for 20 bucks you are probbaly getting a 64bit memory version which will REALLY kill

if you're not going to game then the fx5500 is not a bad choice at all...however you wont be able to game if you ever decide later.
IQ is "image quality" which doesnt apply to your situation as you are not into gaming, i would say go ahead with this card.

I have an FX5200 and it plays UT2004 on low settings, CS/wc3 on max, and CS : S on low and even WoW :p.....so ya if you are not going to game, then the FX5500 is the way to go, for $20 you can't lose.
