lived there for over 8yrs. when i first got there, it sucked. bland, over cooked and horrible. or greasy and horrible.

but by the time i was leaving, it was getting better. chefs like Gary Rhodes showed ppl that they did not have to cook like it was still WWII (during the war, there was so much unavailable that the recipes really lacked) and influences from other parts of Europe were slowly making their way into the busier cities in the UK.

The last time i was there, it was part of a trip i took with a few friends where we travelled to 5 countries. The UK being one of 'em (about 4 years ago).

I'll probably get flamed for this comment, like how i did on slashdot (-1 Flamebait, cmon, it was a witty joke!) but the fact is that none of the food was any good.

I ate at a restaurant near hyde park and that was the best i had there but very expensive and overall the food there was merely average (maybe it was the French waiter with the huge BO and moist armpits who leaned over to hand us our food that ruined it for us... i'm seriously not making this up). There was an American businessman there who said that he only ate there because it was the best place he found. I ate at a small restaurant on the way to stonehenge, and the italian food i ate was devoid of any flavor (that was the worst of the trip). Ate at a few other restaurants and they also seemed to be missing flavor (flavour?).

I might go back (or Athens or Ionina, not sure yet) for a while in a few months, i really liked the UK. Although, i'm hoping the food has gotten better like everyone has been saying.

edit: edited out a section

Foods are richer, but portions are smaller. Traditional English food is a bit boring, meat and potatoes, basically, but that's what I grew up with and that's what I like.

When we first came to NA we found the food to taste bland.

That would seriously suck, what about other ethnic foods like Japanese/Korean/Chinese or Indian?

Not sure about London, I would assume they have all of those.
Almost every town has an Indian and a Chinese restaurant (at least one), so wherever you go you can find stuff.
There are also lots of fish and chip shops, kebab shops etc.
Both of the local CHinese restaurants tastes a hell of a lot better than the one I went to once in the US, which was pretty crappy.

I have family that got tired of British food in the UK and decided to try out Indian food (we are Indian). They claim it was horrible, too.
