How do these rate as far as 21" CRTs go? They are dirt cheap on eBay, I just wanted to know what you guys think of them since I may get one.

I've got an off-lease P1110. Very nice monitor - crystal clear image, excellent geometry, good colour. Hook it up to a card with really good 2D quality (Matrox, ATI) and it'll shine even at 1880*1400. The sharpness of the image puts any LCD I've seen in my local big-box stores to shame.

I wouldn't get one on eBay though, since it'll be refurbished you want to see before you buy. There might be damage to the anti-reflective coating. Some heavily used Trinitron tubes also have brightness issues. Also be aware that it does have those two hair-thin lines across the screen (tensioning wires) common to aperture-grill screens. It doesn't bother me, but some people hate it.

My Sony G500 pwns the Dell P1110 in image quality. The reason is the 5BNC inputs, which the P1110 doesn't have.

I would never buy a big-screen CRT monitor unless it has 5BNC or DVI inputs. The image quality difference over 15-pin D-sub VGA is very noticible.

I went from an HP P1120(basically identical to the Dell/HP P1110) to a Dell P1130 and I didn't notice any difference, except the P1130 will handle higher resolutions/refresh rates.. Both were used units. I went through 2 refurb'ed Dell P1130s and got different image quality. When you buy refurbished, it's really the luck of the draw.
