I ask because im still planning on buying this monitor in the next two days but I just started playing this game on my 7yr old 19" CRT so im wondering how this 2405 will handle this fast game with all the positive and negative things ive heard about it? Has anyone played it on this monitor? Thanks :)

Seriously, you shouldn't have a problem.

In most cases, everything is hype. If you were unaware of any of the issues associated with that monitor and you happened to actually get slight "light leakage" or whatever they call those issues, you probably wouldn't notice/care because that monitor is simply gorgeous.

You will have no issues and will enjoy the monitor immensly.

One problem I see is with your video card. Are you planning on playing with a 9800pro? Probably not a smart move unless you are planning to lower the resolution of the monitor by alot.

If you're running the 9800Pro, then don't expect to be able to play on the monitors native resolution of 1920. The card will simply drop dead. You'd have to lower it by quite a bit to get acceptable performance.

Woops....forgot to update my sig... I just update my rig and stuck a Athlon XP 64 2ghz, a 7600GT and a Abit KN8 mobo...yeah I knew my old 9800pro wouldnt stand a chance, but I hope my new setup will do alright :) upgraded just for this monitor, well sorta, my fan died my on 9800 pro all of a sudden and I figured it was time so I did it all because I wanted to get a monitor that would do justice to games now or at least be better then my 7yr old 19"....

Hate to break it to ya, a 7600gt will also probably not be sufficient for those high resolutions. If you wanna game at 19x12 rez you will need like duel 7900gt's or a heavily oc'd x1900xtx.

Yeah, I assumed I would have to bump it down a notch or two resolution just as long as I could still have it widescreen...same would go for Oblivion...I might even look at a refurbished 2405 from Dell since the price went back up on the 2405 like 2 days ago but does anyone know if there is any type of warrenty of refurbished monitors from Dell? If not then forget it... one dead pixel and im screwed... UPDATE...never mind... i see that there is some type of limited warrenty included on the site...but still...bit of a risk..

I was debating between the 2405 and the 20WMGX2 for about 2 weeks, and I decided to get the 20WMGX2. Reason?

2405 Pros:
Big
High resolusion

2405 Cons:
No HDCP support
High Resolution (lots of power needed)
backlight bleeding
bad response time
input lag

20WMGX2 Pros:
Pure black contrast
6MS response time faster than the human eye can detect
470CD/M Brightness
glossy screen
HDCP support
lower resolution (my puny 7800GT @ GTX speeds might be able to drive it)

20WMGX2 Cons:
small (20" compared to the 24" of the 2405)
costs just the same as the 2405FPW

So after debating I decided to go with the 20WMGX2. It will be coming in tommorow (or at least it should be). I'll tell you how it performs after I get it.

The good news is 1650 x 1080 is a very nice looking 16:10 resolution for that monitor, and my 6800GT handles it quite nicely with action and strat games alike.

Answer? Wait for the 2407. Pretty simple.

I had a 2405 and ditched it for two Cons not on your list.

A: Too damn bright, even at zero brightness, you could pull it down more in the card drivers, but then the quality drops. Probably the brightest on the market.

B: Very poor viewing angles. Move your head two inches and dark tones change. Very noticable on a widescreen. Some people don't even notice I found it extremely annoying.

Personally, I won't look at another LCD unless it is IPS (which the NEC is) since they are supposed to have the best viewing angles. Forget the number here. The 2405 claimed 170 degrees+, which is a farce. It is more like 10-20 degrees before changes occur.

To answer the actual question, you will need something 7800GT level or higher to play anywhere near 1920x1200. My 7800GT is a bit sluggish @ 1680x1050 w/AA in NFS:MW, I think I ended up turning it off. You'll want a 7900GTX or 7900GT SLI for the 2405; or an X1900XT.

A single 7900GT should run most games @ 1680x1050 well. I can play FEAR, COD2, Q4, HL2:LC, & NFS:MW fine with most options on except AA. AA just kills at that high of a res
