How is the CPU temperature taken?

I just realized that the new Gigabyte GA-7DXR has a kind of temp sensor under the
CPU socket. The top of the sensor is touching the bottom of the CPU. The CPU temp readings with this sensor a very high. With the same CPU, I get 5 or 7 degrees Celsius higher temps with the Giga, than I have it with the A7M266 and other boards, which do not have this kind of temp sensor. How are THEY taking the CPU temperature? I hear something about on-die sensor, but that is not as reliable as real sensor, or?

Rectal Thermometer....

Just kidding... The most reliable sensors are obviously going to be those built into the motherboard. Most are fairly accurate, but who's to say how accurate they really are? Maybe some MB reviews or some Overclocking MB reviews... That's about the only way to tell. If you were to get a temp sensor kit, you can actually install your own sensors and place them throughout your case if you're truly concerned. They will give you the most accurate readings because you can adjust them. I've only seen a couple of places that carry them. MCM electronics is where I'd head to get the best quality sensors. ;)

LOL. I would even know a better place to take temps :D

but it does not answer my question. I was not asking about the mobo temps, I was asking about the
CPU temp, or can I assume that the CPU temp is taken by a built in sensor on the bottom of the
socket? that is what I assume. But again, somewhere I have heard soemthing about on-die sensor???
