How is the Core2 structure arranged inside IHS?

I'm thinking my water block may not be seated squarely on the Q9450. Core0 and 2 are about 4c higher temp than Core1 and 3. This has been consistent whether it's idling or full load.

I'm wondering if the Cores are arranged inside the IHS. Are there 2 sets of dualcores, so that #1-4 are arranged in parallel from left to right? If the cores on left side is hotter than right, then I'd suspect that water block is not contacting IHS well. But if it's staggered, with 1 & 3 being hotter than 2 & 4, then I guess I dont' have an explanation other than thermal sensor variances.

IIRC it goes 0 - 1 - 3 - 2

Edit: your temps probably means that your heatsink base and/or heatspreader are not flat. If you don't mind voiding your warranty, consider lapping them to get more even contact. On the other hand though 4c isn't a huge variation and probably not worth the trouble to do the lapping.

Edit: I'm not sure how similar or different the Q6600 is from the Q9450...

I'm pretty sure it's the same layout as we had this discussion before. Temps do fluctuate due to slightly uneven surfaces and among other reasons. As for the @ops post, I wouldn't worry much at all about a 4c temp difference as we all have experienced this with our C2Q.:)
