Newegg has a special on this for $99. I was going with an Antec1040 (looks the same) but saw this. Is it a good case to get? Here are the specs (from Newegg):

CHIEFTECH Server Chasis (Workstation Tower) Model DX-01WD-420W; AMD Approved Power Supply Front Accessible: 4 x 5.25", 2 x 3.5", Internal: 4 x 3.5". Power Supply:(P4) 420 watts Model# CWT420 ATX 12V- No Case Fan! Manager

The case itself is the exact same. The only difference is the power supplies and the Antec has 3 fans included.

Hmm...now I wonder if I should go with the Antec1040 with 3 case fans and a 400 watt supply (for around $125-130) or go with the Chieftech, 420 watt supply, and buy 3 fans (for $100)...decisions decisions..

Another option would be to get the bare case for $34.40 from Provantage, it is in the Var Series which are identical to Antec Performance Series but do not have a power supply. The Antec 300w PS is kind of loud, the 400w may be louder, I replaced my 300w Antec with a PC P&C Silencer 400 to get the noise down. The new quiet Enermax power supplies with the adjustable fan speeds may be even quieter. The Antec 80mm cases fans are definately annoying, get four Panaflo L1A's for case cooling.

Check out the photos of the different cases before you buy. Chieftec makes the Antec cases. The Antec 800 series do not have the second hdd cage, the Chieftec brand does. I think all the DX-01WD style cases similar to the Antec 1040 have two hdd cages.

Check on googlegear.com. They have a google case under the AMD heading that is a rebadged Antec 1040. It comes with a 400W power supply and 2 case fans........for about $90 + shipping.

I received mine about a week ago and it is great. Picked it up for $90 + shipping. The shipping was kind of high, but I bought all the components for a new rig at the same time and got a good deal on shipping.

All these cases are made by a company called UNeec (formerly known as Chen Ming). The case I bought came with all the rails, screws, standoffs, HDD cages, fan holder clips, etc....

Don't know where you live, but here in SoCal, CompUSA has the Antec 1035B (it's the black 1030 with the Antec 350 watt PSU - the one with 2 fans like the Enermax) for $99 after a rebate. So that's about $110 after tax and no shipping costs.

Edit: Sale ends Saturday.

I found a blue one. I was going to get the black from Newegg for the same price, and then I found a blue one and now I'm having a tough time deciding. There's a silver version too. It's more expensive, and that's why I'm debating...http://www.designcomp.com/Cases/Chenming/Stock/Color_Mid.htm

I don't have anything to do with this company, even though I think I've posted links to it in 3 threads :) It's late and I got excited b/c I like the blue one :D

I like the blue as well !

Do you know if those 300W power supplies are AMD approved ?

also - seems most people are pushing to get 400W PSU just to be safe with their next upgrade, and I only see 300W available.

cheers!

The Chieftec cases are really good. They are identical to the Antec and Enermax cases. Actually, I think all the cases are made by ChenMing and sold to Antec and Enermax. Chieftec is the business indentity for ChenMing to sell it's cases directly under that label. All the same and you will be happy with it. If you get your own fans, you can dictate the speed and noise levels of those fans. Of course that leads to more decisions on which fans! good luck!

As listed near the bottom of the main page for these cases on our site, here is the link to the specs for the High Power 300W PSU that we are offering with these cases (if you want to get it with the PSU): HPC 300W PSU We will have options for a 340W and a 400W PSU (from this same manufacturer) in the near future.

I got the Chieftec case and switched out the PSU to a Enermax whisper series. :)

Nice and quiet now with 2 Panaflo L1A's. :)

Techru --

thanks for the info.

Looks like the 300W PSU HPC-300-102 12V is only "recommended" for upto Athlon XP 1900+.

On AMD's site they list the HPC-340-101 340W PSU and the HPC-300-101Rev AO 300W as "approved" for upto xp 2000+ .

But maybe the HPC-300-102 12V is a newer version ?

And do you have an ETA on the 400W bundle ?

thanks!
